15.8oz indigo slub selvedge denim jeans

Sorry it’s been a little long since my last post. I actually made these jeans about 2-3 weeks ago, but I’ve just taken a while to post about them. The date of this post is when I finished them, not when the IG post came out. These pants were made from a 15.8oz uneven indigo dyed slubby 100% cotton selvedge denim from Okayama. I bought the fabric from Kofuya off of Etsy, however I think it’s sold out now. I really love this fabric due to the texture and still have 4 yards of it to work with, however, I probably won’t make pants with it anytime soon. I didn’t put rivets in these pants, instead backtacking, as I didn’t want to waste rivets on a pair of pants I probably wouldn’t wear. I patterned this pair of pants off of a pair of straight fit chinos I got from Uniqlo. I really liked how the chinos fit but I don’t think they work for a pair of jeans. Here are the 3 things that I think don’t work:

  1. The rise of the chinos seem too high by about 1”-1.5”

  2. The waist and hips area of the chinos are slightly too tight or at least need more ease

  3. The legs of the chinos are too wide

With the rise being too high and the waist/hip area being too tight the jeans sit a bit high on my body for my liking. Alongside the starchyness of the denim the pockets felt tight to reach into, and the pants were overall a bit too uncomfortable for me to want to wear. Also the legs of the jeans seemed too wide for me to wear, which surprised me as when I wear the chinos, the legs don’t feel or look wide. I think the starchyness of the denim also affected this because this fabric is super starchy. I think the starch made the pants drape terribly over the leg, and just made the fit of the legs bad.

Fabric used

The texture of these pants is crazy, some of the slubbiest denim I have ever had. The uneven dye is super cool as well, making the fabric look kind of like cheetah print. Though because of this I think it’s hard to wear this fabric daily and really fade it down. I find really textured fabrics harder to wear everyday as compared to smoother fabrics, but I do think this denim would fade down beautifully.
